Embroidered Kaftan Coat
Piece Unique

Custom Order for Elfje.

The fabric used as base for the work is in wool woven .
It is a traditional wedding stole "Phulakiya Ludaki" ,  Vaghadia Rabari tribe , Kutch , Gujarat , India .

Up-cycled satin silk embroidered with big flowers , cut on a vintage sari.
It is sewn by handi on the Rabari shawl with thousand tiny points .
After that , I made my rustic wool embroideries , all around ....
I worked with 20 different colors of wool .

The collar embroidered with stylized tulips was cut on traditional Tekke cape ( Turkmenistan ), which is worn on the top of the head  .
This cape was very old , from 1940s , damaged , the silk fibers were broken by the age .
Fortunately the magnificent embroidery is in perfect condition.

Closed with 2 magnetic fastener and 2 hooks :

Vintage Uzbek tassels , coins ,  buttons , ornament from India / Pakistan / Afghanistan .

These circular embroideries were on the Rabari shawl .
I cut them and they are embellished with the rustic wool embroideries.

The lining :

A patchwork of different up-cycled Indian silks  : Ikat , Damask ...

..... and a pretty vintage cotton, printed flowers, 1960s/70s ,
from a Japanese summer kimono

This patchwork lining is entirely sewn by hand.

The back

The traditional Rabari embroidery , with small mirrors
